This procedure is continued until all plaque accumulated in the curved surfaces of and between the teeth is cleaned.  Scaling is ended after the plaque is completely removed and tooth varnish or fluoride containing pastes are applied. Tooth can completely be coated.  Surgical methods may be used in severe cases.  In surgical method, the surrounding healthy tissue is drifted to the damaged area to cover the recessed area or a graft harvested from the palate is surgically added to the recessed area.
