Following this procedure that removes the large plaques from the teeth, water is sprayed into mouth and the eruptions are cleaned. Then, the fine plaque is cleaned using thin instruments. This procedure is continued until all plaque accumulated in the curved surfaces of and between the teeth is cleaned. Scaling is ended after the plaque is completely removed and tooth varnish or fluoride containing pastes are applied. The procedure is completed within a short time like 10 minutes. However, it can be said that the denser the plaque is, the longer the scaling takes.
